Chantecaille Brilliant Lip Gloss Review and Swatches

I recently picked up three of the Chantecaille Brilliant Lip Glosses. I have been wanting to try these for a long time and finally decided to give them a try when they were on sale at Nordstrom.

The three shades that I picked up are Charm, Love, and Mirth. These retail for $36.

The very first thing I noticed when I received these in the mail is that they look like completely different colors in person, than they do online. Both in the tubes and applied, they look like different shades than what I was expecting from the photos.

The applicator is a skinny brush that applied a lot of gloss to the lips in the first swipe.

The lip gloss formula is really sheer with a high shine and has a somewhat floral and minty scent that tastes a little like chemicals.

The formula is a little sticky, similar to Mac dazzleglasses, which doesn’t bother me. These have a mild tingly minty sensation, kind of like lip plumpers, but these lip glosses didn’t plump my lips at all.

These glosses give a really pretty shine to the lips but they do seem to wear off my lips pretty quickly. Most lipgloss wears off somewhat quickly anyway, but these seem to go away even faster than most. Within two hours the shine has already significantly faded and looks like I’m just wearing a lip balm. They also left my lips really dry after wearing them.

Now on to the colors:

Love– This looks like a bubble gum pink with shimmer in the tube but when I apply it on my lips it looks like just a shiny clear gloss. No shimmer or color shows up at all on my lips.

Mirth– I was really surprised that this is so peachy looking in the tube because on the website it looks like a lilac pink color. This also shows shimmer in the tube but does not show up on the lips. This one again, just looks like a clear gloss on me.

Charm– this shade looks like a light beige nude in the tube with slight silver shimmer. On the lips, again, it just looks clear without color or any sparkle.

The swatches here are with several layers built up to try to show the color. One swipe only looked like shine even on my hand.

I did try building up the gloss on my lips to try to get it to show more color but all that did was make it feel very goopy. I definitely couldn’t wear it like that, it was just too much.

Another thing I want to note is that all three of these came with a large air bubble inside so the tubes are not full. They looked like they are missing about a fourth of the product before I applied any. I’ve never experienced receiving brand new lip glosses that are not completely full. I find this annoying, especially at this price.

Overall, I am pretty disappointed in these lip glosses and even a little in the brand since this is my first Chantecaille purchase. Even on sale, I do not feel these are worth the price. I also feel like you do not need more than one color if you like the formula, because they all look the same on the lips. If you are only interested in the shine and don’t have pigmented lips, these might work better for you than they did for me. The high shine is really pretty, but I get the same level of shine with more sparkle and more color with the MAC dazzle glasses, and they are almost half the price of these, even on sale. I do love a sheer lip gloss formula, in fact sheer gloss is my favorite for layering over lipstick, but these are so sheer they are clear on me.

I really don’t understand the hype around this lip gloss and feel like there are much better glosses out there for the money. I would definitely recommend other lip glosses over these such as: Chanel Rouge Coco Glosses and the new Dior Addict Stellar Glosses in the same price range, and MAC Dazzleglasses for a great lower priced gloss.
