The MAC Cosmetics Shooting Star Opalescent Highlighter from the Starring You Holiday Collection is presented in a gorgeous sparkly compact. I’m loving the gorgeous packaging of this collection With the gradient glitter.
The formula of this Highlighter can be applied more sheer or built up to full color. I personally prefer to apply my highlighter in a natural more sheer way rather than have a blinding shiny area on my cheek, so this formula is great for a natural application.
The color is an icy neutral to cool leaning pink with metallic sheen.it has has a smooth feel when swatched and apples to the skin.
The first thing I thought of being similar in shade when swatching this Highlighter was the Dior pink highlighter from a few years ago in 001 Glowing Pink. So I swatched Shooting Star along side DIOR 001 Glowing Pink and Lolli Glow 08 Pink.
You can see they all look completely different in the pan, but are more similar when swatched on the skin.
Glowing Pink, Shooting Star, Lolli Glow Pink
These colors are similar tones on the skin but not dupes for each other, but I think that if you have one of the Dior Pink highlighters you may not need the MAC one. The main difference is formula.
Overall, I’m very happy with the MAC Shooting Star Highlighter. I love to collect the limited edition MAC highlighters and am happy to have this gorgeous compact in my collection, but I also feel this is a shade I will use a lot as I tend to reach for pink and champagne colors of highlight.
The MAC Opalescent Highlighter also came in a golden shade that looked too deep for my complexion so I skipped it. These highlighters are available now everywhere MAC Cosmetics is sold and retail for $36 USD.
